“We recorded this CD in an ultra intimate environment. Malcolm and
I would work on the songs randomly and on the spur of the moment.
If we felt like working we did and if we didn’t we didn’t.
Thanks to the fact that it was recorded mostly in Malcolm’s home studio in NY we
didn’t have the normal pressure one has when recording in a real studio with a structured plan and schedule”.
“Because of these extraordinary circumstances Malcolm was also able to give me the space I needed to experiment. I was more involved with the overall arrangements and the mixing than I was on my first CD. This also allowed me to record a lot more instruments and parts for the songs. If I had an idea Malcolm would immediately encourage me to grab a guitar and put in down! Thanks to that I was able to grow as an artist as well as an instrumentalist, co-producer and co-mixer”.
“Once the record was finished I experimented on a cover song with a different producer, Valenti Adell. He had mastered my previous CD. After he joined my European band as the lead guitar and keyboard player we slowly developed an interesting creative relationship. So we were both happy to try working together on a song”.
“I chose Rebel Rebel cause I had been asked to participate in a commemorative compilation CD for David Bowie which Valenti Adell was producing. I had a pretty good idea how I wanted the song to sound like and Valenti was able to meet my expectations very fast and efficiently. We recorded, mixed and mastered it in just one day!”
“I also have very fond memories of the team Malcolm formed in Macedonia and who we ended up using to record “Winter Tires”, “Sunshine Gold” and “Accidents”. I had been invited to collaborate in the soundtrack for a British independent film called “Glow” by Dusan Tolmac, a young Serbian film director and script writer.”
“Malcolm and I decided we wanted to give the songs a Slavic flair and so we ended up traveling there. Once we ran through the songs with the musicians I was immediately astonished at the high level of creativity and professionalism they had. The recording process was possibly the most inspiring experience I had while making my second album. The three songs were recorded live in a humble local studio with little technological resources giving us a lot of room to improvise and be creative”.
“These songs were the first ones we recorded for this album without even knowing at the time we were actually recording an album. A few months later when we were both back in NY we came to the realization that they were the birth of a new album and so we slowly built the rest of the CD over the course of six months.”
